About Verena J. Heroux
Growing up in the English country side inspired in me the love of nature's beauty and the desire to portray it in watercolors.
I don't remember a time when I didn't paint as a child growing up on the east coast of England. As in the case with many women of my generation, I put aside my interests in order to raise a family. I began painting seriously in 1998 after my husband retired and we moved to the coastal area of North Carolina.
I was drawn to painting flowers because as a child, I spent many hours with my father George who maintained a beautiful garden. He grew vegetables as well as flowers. I had my own section in the garden to plant seeds. This instilled within me a love for nature's bounty. He also taught me the names of the flowers.
I have never taken formal classes in painting, Composition or design. I am primarily self taught through books and self directed study
I have done several solo shows locally.
I was presented with my WSNC Signature Membership 2005.
